The Teachers Of The Kokorogake Dojo.

Our dojo has six full time teachers. They are all actively involved in teaching and assisting in runnuing the dojo. They all volunteer their time and none are paid anything to teach or to assist in running our dojo. They are all truely dedicated men.

George Keely-Chief Instructor

Our chief instructor is a career law enforcement veteran. His father was a career military officer and this gave George Keely the opportunity to begin studying martial arts as a young child. He has studied judo, karate, iaijujtsu, and several aiki arts including aikijujutsu. He is also an accomplished law enforcement defensive tactics instructor. He currently holds the belt rank of Renshi.

He has studied Isshinryu Karate from O'Sensei Shimabuku and Ed Johnson Shihan. He studied Watanabe-ryu Aikijujutsu from Hanshi Watanabe. He has also attended classes taught by Bill Whitley Sensei (Master John Denora's style of Aikijujutsu). He has about 1,000 hours of training in law enforcement defensive tactics. He is also a good grapler with a strong background in "shime waza," or strangling techniques.

In randori he favors hard entering style throws and uses submissions based on blood chokes on the mat.

Robin McBride-1st Instructor

Robin McBride is our dojo's 1st Instructor. He has a martial arts background that includes karate, TKD, boxing, and aikijujutsu. He is a career law enforcement officer and is very street oriented. He currently holds the belt rank of Sandan.

Robin McBride is known for his diligent work ethic in the dojo. He rarly misses a class and also teaches defensive tactics at the local city college. He is a finese thrower that favors the turning style throws over the entering throws. He is a very skilled faller and is very good at teaching students ukemi.

Jon Barrick Sensei

Jon Barrick Sensei holds the belt rank of Nidan and actually earned his original black belt rank (Shodan) at the age of eighteen years old! He does not like to teach a lot, but he is in the dojo working out four days a week. He is highly skilled at randori and favors the more advanced "aikinage" style throws. His ukemi is also excellent and he does assist in teaching falling in the kids class.

He is a student of the sword and jo. He has excellent jo form and also teaches the jo kata in the adult classes. His work out ethic is strong and he is always asking Keely Sensei to teach him new throws, especially aikinages. He is skilled at a wide range of throwing techniques and can apply them all in randori.

Leon Stroud Sensei

Leon Stroud Sensei graduated from the local law enforcement academy in December of 2006. He has been a master tool maker until his pursuit of law enforcement. He has a strong background in wrestling and holds the belt rank of Shodan in aikijujutsu.

He is an excellent teacher and also an excellent grapler. During randori he employs a wide variety of throwing techniques including some advanced aikinages. He is always quick to assist teaching in the kids and adult classes and also has helped out teaching defensive tactics at the local city college. He also teaches children how to play ice hockey.

Mike Coleman Sensei

Mike Coleman is an excellent teacher of aikijujutsu and holds the belt rank of Shodan. He has been practicing aikijujutsu for about five years. He has a smooth throwing style for a man that is 6'6" tall. He prefers turning style throws and aikinages while engaged in randori. He is also a pretty fair grapler once on the mat.

He has  many work and family obligations but manages to assist in teaching at the defensive tactics class at the local city college. When time permits he also teaches in the adult and kids classes. He attends every class that he can.

Chancey Westfall Sensei

Chancey westfall is our newest and youngest teacher. He was promoted to Shodan in December 2006, at the young age of nineteen years old. He has ben involved in martial arts for many years and currently studies and competes in TKD, studies the sword, and does aikijujutsu four days a week! His work ethic is superior as he not only teaches in every class, he hardly ever misses any classes at all. He is a good teacher and is rapidly on his way to being an excellent teacher.

On the mat he is a fierce uke and has superior ukemi (this is a good thing as he attacks at full speed and takes many really hard falls) skills. In randori he uses a vast array of throwing techniques ranging from very basic throws to highly advanced throws. He is also a strong grapler and is skilled in submissions as well as blood chokes. He is always requesting that Keely Sensei schedule extra workouts!
